Sydney film festival is one of the most important film events of its kind on an international level; with a high reputation for the best of world cinema and strong local following
Since its inception in 1954, the Sydney Film Festival (SFF), recognised by the Federation Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films (FIAPF), has increased in size and reputation to become a leading international film festival in Australia. The festival takes place each June at venues across Sydney. The SFF program celebrates the best of world cinema, screening features, documentaries, short films, retrospectives and a series of industry and public talks. In June 2022, just over 200 productions from over 60 countries were selected for the festival, attracting an audience of over 100,000.
Sydney is one of the most important film events of its kind on an international level; with a high reputation for the best of world cinema and strong local following. The festival invites around 20 international guests, among them directors, business representatives (distributors, producers, festival directors) who attend seminars and panel discussions. Most Australian distributors are based in Sydney, as are pub casters ABC and SBS, the commercial TV networks and much of the print media including Murdoch’s the Australian newspaper.
The Live Action Short Award and Animation Award are Academy Award® eligible.

Rules
Restirctions
- All international productions and local productions must be a premiere in the Australian state of New South Wales;
- Works that are solely promotional, educational or scientific in nature are not eligible for selection for the SFF;
- Films must have been completed since 28 March 2022.
- Entries under 40 mins

Regional premiere required.
